Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model: 11 Become 9

Last week's episode was so uninspiring; we simply were not moved to write anything! So far, we aren't very impressed with series, sorry cycle, 7 and hope the show gets better soon or we'll be forced to give up entirely.

Jade in episode 7

In its favour, last week had the striking Alek Wek set the girls a challenge and the photo shoot did at least show the potential Jade has.

This week the producers seem set on making Anastasija and Juste the villains and most of the other girls didn't really get a look in. The few glimpses we have seen of Jade show that she does have quite a witty sense of humour which we'll hopefully get to see more of.

As wannabe ballerinas, we were quite taken with this week’s photo shoot and the resulting pictures. The stylist for the shoot didn't seem to dress the girls according to their body types; why put ruler shaped Juste in a plain, long outfit or put top heavy Jade in a corset that was at least two sizes too small?

Bravo Jessica!

Oh dear Jade

For all of Jade's prancing about (and resulting nipple slips) we were shocked when they finally showed her best shot. Was that really the best they could find? Doubtful. But then we remind ourselves it's a reality show first, modelling competition second so why let something like the truth get in the way?

Guest judge Henry Holland rightfully said that Jessica does not look like a top model but was quickly talked over by Grace. He should be listened to - as pretty as Jessica is, could she really compete with thin-as-a-pin working models once the show has ended?

Next week is a double elimination and rightfully so; there's not much life left in this cycle of BINTM.

Bring back Tyra!

Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model: 11 Become 10

Was it us or was Monday's episode kind of boring? Usually the makeovers are good for a laugh but not even the pink haired girl's reaction was interesting.

And exactly what did they do to Jade, Jessica and Ufuoma? They looked almost exactly the same pre and post makeover! At best, they gave Ufuoma a touch up relaxer and added a packet of gloss dye on Jade's already red hair.

Jade after the makeover

Jade before. Spot the difference!

The highland creature living atop Jessica's head needed to be put out to pasture but it looks like they gave her a neater version of what she already had. Boring!

Other than Juste and maybe Amy (owner of the world's worst weave), none of them really look like 'top models'. Yes they are attractive, but a lot of them look like the 'pretty girl' you went to school with.

Juste

That said, when you consider that the prize includes the cover of Company magazine and a campaign with Miss Selfridge (not really in the realms of a Vogue shoot) any of these girls look accessible enough to do it.

Shame Ufuoma had to leave but as she herself said, her photo really wasn't very good.

Please let next week be more exciting!

Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model: 13 Become 11

After a rather uneventful start to tonight’s episode, the 13 girls met Janice Dickinson (who was a lot nicer than she was on ANTM) for a catwalk challenge in Kew Gardens. The majority of them were rubbish! And me oh my, in leggings and little tops some of them looked SO skinny!

BINTM judges

Poor old Jessica got upset over Janice’s remarks over her larger body but good old Ufuoma came to the rescue and cheered her up.

Jessica’s body isn’t your usual model size (size 4-8 max) so we think she had better get used to negative comments. If (and it’s a big if) she makes it through to the final three, she’s bound to hear worse comments than what Janice said.

Jessica, Ufuoma and Jade did well at the photo shoot but in the final pictures Jessica looked awful! Too big and too old – was that really the best shot of her they could find?! And what was Ufuoma doing - she loooked like a clown!

'Goodbye' to Joanne and Kimberleigh and 'Hello' to makeovers next week!

Do you have a clear favourite yet? We think Hannah, Ufuoma and Juste will be among the final five. Too early to pick final three!

Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model: The Final 13

Now the X-Factor style auditions and boot camp is over (a hopeful cry for more ratings if we’ve ever seen one), we finally meet the 13 girls who’ve made it into the model house.

Will Julian keep calling the black girls ‘athletic, toned, strong’ as if he were lining them up for manual labour?

Will Grace hate on them like she did Kirsty last cycle?

Kirsty Parsons of Cycle 6

Tune in every week and then visit Afro Boudoir where we’ll be discussing how they performed. And performed is the right word – this isn’t really a modelling competition, it’s a reality show.

Let’s meet them!

Ufuoma
Age 20
From London

Wow – we know her! This isn’t a great shot of her because she is actually a lot prettier than this. She has always been very slim and we often thought she’d end up modelling. By default we want her to win!

Jade
Age 20
From Stoke on Trent

Love her freckles and red hair. It sounds clichéd but she does have a unique look.

Jessica
Age 23
From London

The oldest of the bunch, we have reservations about her. During auditions we weren’t sure she had the face or the body for modelling but once you strip away the weave and the excessive make up, a pretty girl emerged. We’ll see.

Let’s just hope they don’t end the series with a drawn out, overblown live final like they did last year!
