What Makes You Feel Special?

High Street retailer Superdrug surveyed over 2,000 women to find out what tactics they use on a daily basis to make themselves feel extra special. The survey was done to celebrate the launch of the new Superdrug false lash collection.

Over half the respondents said a simple spray of their favourite perfume made them feel special. Good news for all those celebrities who’ve launched their own perfumes!

The survey also found that the average single lady spends 38 minutes preparing for a date, but just 10 minutes getting ready for at work. Sounds about right!

The top 20 ways women feel sexy are:

1. Apply favourite perfume
2. Wear a big happy smile
3. Paint nails
4. Get hair coloured or highlighted
5. Spend hours straightening hair
6. Cleavage on show




7. Indulge in a long hot bath
8. Have legs on show
9. Wear a push up bra

13. Spend hours curling hair

The survey was done to launch Superdrug’s new false lash collection. We tried the Double Volume Edition 40 and used their handy video tutorial as we’re a pair of false lash virgins. The video is really easy to follow and the lashes look a-mazing! Like spiders on our eyes!

Why Afro Boudoir Should Be At The Look Show

Look magazine is offering all lovers of fashion a chance to write for them during London Fashion Week next month. Five lucky winners will have the chance to be on the coveted front row at The Look Show and write, direct from the trenches, on what's new for Spring/Summer 2012.

The Look Show is the first and only magazine event to be part of the London Fashion Week calendar and will be held in Stratford City on Saturday 17th September.

So why should we be there?

We picked up the September issue of our favourite glossy as it is, in our minds, the most important issue of the year, as it details all the key fashion and beauty looks for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season. We oohed and aahed over all the new collections (love jewel tones at Gucci and snakeskin at Chloe) and daydreamed about the new ways we could wear our hair and makeup.

Then we thought: where are the brown skinned girls? We know Jourdan Dunn, Nyasha Matonhodze and Joan Smalls were booked during Autumn/Winter 2011 fashion weeks, so where were the tips for girls who look like them? How did the stylists get the looks on their hair? What did Pat McGrath do to get the colours to pop on their skin? Why were there ways to work these looks on blondes, brunettes and redheads but not even a token picture of how to do it on a black, mixed or Asian girl?

That's why we want to be at The Look Show at Westfield Stratford City: so we can write about fashion and beauty for a large and growing demographic aka you and me! Yes we can look at Essence or Ebony but we aren't in America - we want to write about British designers and where to go to get the looks in British shops. Westfield Stratford City would be a great start!

Calling All Wannabe Stylists!

If you are the one your friends come to when they don’t know what to wear or how to pull a certain look together, you may have that natural fashion flair needed to become a stylist. If that sounds like you, online shop Very.co.uk is searching for a fashion advisor to join its new Very V-Team, a panel of five experts who will give customers style advice and conduct monthly makeovers. The search is led by Fearne Cotton.

The most famous stylist of the moment is Rachel Zoe who has styled just about everyone in Hollywood and has recently released her own clothing line so who knows where this Very job could lead! Go for it – sounds like fun!
