Diether Ocampo Covers Reader’s Digest December 2009 Issue

After Michael V. and Manny Pacquiao, another Philippine showbiz celebrity made it to the cover of Reader’s Digest Asia. Yes, Diether "Diet" Ocampo - the founder of KIDS Foundation is on the cover of Reader's Digest Asia December 2009 issue.

Identified in the story as "the Filipino actor and activist," Diet is prolific in his work as the founding president of the K.I.D.S. foundation to help children and puts his philanthropic nature down to the principle of "paying it forward."

"I haven’t forgotten that I come from a poor family," he said in the interview. "This keeps me grounded and grateful for what I have today."

The Reader’s Digest Asia recognizes his efforts and makes him (and others) the cover story of the December issue.

The article My Wish for the New Year explores what celebrities and children want to see for 2010.

Aside from Diet, the magazine also features such other inspirational Asians as Malaysia’s Datin Paduka Sharifah Mazlina, the first Asian woman to trek the Arctic and Antarctic; and Marina Mahathir, columnist, women’s rights activist and blogger; and Singapore’s Dr. William Tan, paraplegic and world record holder for fastest person to complete seven marathons in seven countries. These people share their wishes for the new year.

Beware of Liberal Assassination Conspiracy to Make Obama a Martyr for the Liberal Agenda

Geerge Soros

As Richard Nixon used to say, “Let me make myself perfectly clear!” Although I vehemently disagree with President Barack Obama’s policies, I just as adamantly want him to serve the rest of his term in office whether it be through 2012 or 2016 in safety without any harm coming to him.

I’m an American who is proud that we always have a peaceful transfer of power as a result of what happens at the ballot box and not with bullets.

But, in the wake of the White House Party Crashers incident, and how ridiculous or embarrassing it may be for the administration, I have to say something crazy and devious because I put nothing past desperate Liberals wanting to pass the Liberal laundry list of policies that is representative of the Obama administration.

After John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Barry Goldwater instinctively knew that he had no shot of winning the presidency because he felt the country would rally around Lyndon Johnson to fulfill the agenda of a young charismatic president in John F. Kennedy.

Johnson won by a landslide and he went on to fulfill what Kennedy started.

Today, we have another young charismatic president in Barack Obama with sinking approval ratings.

My fear is that the movers and shakers that lurk in the shadows of the Democrat Party like billionare George Soros and others will arrange to have Obama taken out and sacrificed for the greater cause of ObamaCare, Cap and Trade, Card Check ect…

Of course laying the blame on Right Wing survivalists, tea baggers, birthers, or returning war vets will be part of the charade to hide the actual culprits.

Sounds crazy?

Yes, it does. But, I feel I have to put this crazy notion out there because Liberals are known for their deceit and they would stop at nothing to achieve their aims.

Some may feel that desperate times call for desperate measures.

Keep our president safe!

See this is some Bull-ish. . .

It’s November 30, 2009, 11:21 a.m. and why the power just went out in my building!

I just lost all composure and hollered . . . HELL NAW!!!!

I was on page three, all in my work groove, and my dumb a** didn’t click file SAVE!

Lawd, if AUTO-RECOVERY kicks in….. WHOA NELLY. . . I will do a

Now, a kidd works for the good ol’ government, and ya’ll know our system is old and out-dated. But, haven’t they heard of power generators?

I mean dang JEEDA! Is that too much to ask?

“Attention, Attention, our system may be down for an hour or more.”

Hmm, alrighty then, well I guess a two-hour lunch break will suite me just fine today.

Ummm, Bookie, are you down for a noon-time, sweaty, quickie?

Lea Salonga is Grizzabella in the Musical "Cats"

Andrew Lloyd Webber was absolutely delighted when told that Filipino international singer/actress Lea Salonga would play Grizzabella in the musical Cats. This is according to Tim McFarlane, producer of The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific Pty Ltd. McFarlane was in town for the launching of Cats in Manila.

Lea, who will get to sing Memory, once again captivated the audience when she sang the song during the media launch. "This is my first time to sing Memory in public. I have not done it, not even in previous concerts," Lea declared.

"We have long wanted to bring Cats to Manila," McFarlane said. The musical which first opened in London in May 11, 1981 to rave reviews, went on to win record-breaking number of awards worldwide including two Olivier Awards for Musical of the Year and Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Musicals and seven Tony Awards. It will be staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater in July 2010.

James Cundall, CEO of Lunchbox Productions and who also served as moderator of the launch said that Lea’s appearance is a triple treat as the actress/singer would be acting, singing and dancing.

Fiz Shapur, the musical supervisor of Cats, played on the piano some excerpts from the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber including Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Cats tells the imaginative tale of a tribe of Jellicle Cats as they gather together for the annual Jellicle Ball. Each cat tells his story for the entertainment of Old Deuteronomy who must choose one of the Cats to journey to the Heavyside layer to be reborn into a new life.

It is based on T.S. Elliot’s book of poems, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats which was first published in 1939. Andrew Lloyd Webber used Elliot’s poems as lyrics and set them to music to create a musical. Some elements from Elliot’s other unpublished writings brought to life the glamour Cat Grizabella who provides the pivotal storyline for the musical.

Cats held the record for the longest-running musical in the history of West End Theater, a position it held until October 2006 when it was surpassed by Le Miserables. It closed in London in May 11, 2002 with 8,950 performances. Cats opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theater in Oct. 7, 1982 and continued to play until Sept. 10, 2000 after 7,485 performances. It was one of the longest-running musicals on Broadway surpassed only by Phantom of the Opera.

Memory, the most popular song in the musical has been recorded by over 150 artists including Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis and Liberace. Barry Manilow’s rendition became a Top 40 hit in the US, while I consider Barbra’s version to be the most heart-wrenching.

Undoubtedly one of the most popular musicals in history, Cats has played in 26 countries and over a hundred cities and has been translated into 10 languages including German, Spanish, Japanese, French, and Swedish, among others.

But why is Cats so popular? McFarlane explained, "It is because of its music, the highlight of which is the song Memory. Second, the show is great and appeals to people of all ages and all cultures."

Cats Now and Forever in Manila is produced by Lunch Box Theatrical Productions, David Atkins Enterprises, Concertus and All Youth Channels in association with The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific.

Lea rose to international fame via Miss Saigon where she won the Tony Award for Outstanding Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama Desk Award and the Laurence Olivier Award. She played Eponine as well as Fantine in Les Miserables, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, the Witch in Into The Woods, Cinderella, among others. She has several recordings to her name and is the singing voice behind Princess Jasmine in the blockbuster Disney hit Aladdin, and in Mulan and Mulan 2.

I am certainly not going to miss this musical even if it plays at midnight, when there is no sound at the pavement. How can you miss the great Lea Salonga singing this song, not in a thousand midnights.

Nikki Gil is Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde: The Musical"

Elle Woods is Barbie incarnate. The doll and the vixen sport blonde hair and love anything pink. Stepping into Elle’s uber feminine world is Nikki Gil who leads the cast of Legally Blonde The Musical’s local staging. Atlantis Productions will present the movie-turned-musical in June 2010 at the Meralco Theater. Chari Arespacochaga directs.

"I like pink," replies Nikki when asked how she feels playing the Reese Witherspoon big screen role. "If you watch MYX, it’s their favorite character for me. I would play someone who is maarte and mouths, ‘Oh my God… what’s that?’ It is something I can do for a full-length play."

Although the singer-actress can relate to Elle with all her heart, Nikki has started preparing for the role this early.

"I got the material and I started reading the script and memorizing the songs," Nikki shares.

This shows how Nikki is serious with this new challenge in her career. Nikki has done one formal production with Atlantis and relies a lot on her singing experience on TV and in concert tours for the past years. Nikki is aware of the responsibility and the pressure of playing the Broadway character. Unlike actors who are trained for years, Nikki will put all her acting and singing know-how in seven months to act, think and sound like Elle come next year.

"I’m excited," shares Nikki. "It’s a fun gig. It speaks of something true. It also speaks of a sentiment like. I think I can be so much better than what I really am right now. I think it’s very timely." That’s the same scenario Elle has gone through in the movie. The sorority star proves that there’s much more to her than good looks.

"I’m more worried with singing than in acting," says Nikki. "Back in high school, I used to compete in dramatic monologues and one-act plays for inter-school competitions.

"Pop singing is different from theater singing. Theater actors have a different lifestyle compared to showbiz actors. TV work requires one to stay till the wee hours of the morning. I have to take a break from what I usually do because my voice might not stand the demands of musical theater."

It’s a wise decision for Nikki because there’s so much dancing and singing in Legally Blonde. It means she has to work on her physical stamina and vocal strength. Nikki will play the part for 20 shows and she has no understudy.

Legally Blonde The Musical begins when Elle’s boyfriend breaks up with her and falls for another girl who is more “serious.” To win back her man, she leaves her fabulous life to study law in Harvard. The intellectual community welcomes an unexpected visitor.

Elle’s journey to Harvard helps her find who she is and what she can do. As Atlantis puts it, being true to one’s self never goes out of style.

Legally Blonde won Best New Touring Musical, Best Design and Best Music. It will tour the US for the next two years.

Asked what she will do if a good soap opera comes her way, Nikki answers, "I have to finish first what I have started. And I have to avoid (doing) things that will ask me to stay long on the set."

For more details about Legally Blonde The Musical in Manila call 892-7078 or 840-1187.

Seeing how we’ve never seen Busta in a real relationship at all since he’s been on the scene, there may be some truth to this one."

The word is out about Mr. Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal.

"Mr. 7 feet 1 inch, 325 pounds softy paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl after being moved by national news coverage of the case of Shaniya Davis, who police say was kidnapped and killed.

The Cleveland Cavaliers player was touched by the stories he saw and got in touch with the family to see what he could do to help, a spokeswoman for O’Neal said Thursday. More than 2,000 people attended the girl’s funeral Sunday. Her body was found Nov. 16 beside a rural road. Her mother, Antoinette Davis, who had reported the child missing six days earlier, is charged with human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution. Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping in the case.

I was sitting at home watching it on the news and the story brought a tear to my eye, O’Neal told The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper. Corey Breece, of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, which handled the service, declined to tell the Fayetteville Observer newspaper how much it cost but added that a child’s funeral averages around $4,500.

A man who answered the phone at the funeral home Thursday told the Associated Press that only the owner could comment and that he was away. Shaniya Davis’ father, Bradley Lockhart, and his family had set up a trust fund in memory of Shaniya to help raise money to pay for the funeral. Lockhart was not available to talk Thursday, said a man who answered the phone at his home."

Mr. O'Neal, thanks for rising to the occassion. You indeed are a big man with a even bigger heart!

Islam Will Dominate the World if Christians Don’t Stand Up

Old Europe is dying and Islam is filling the void of a culture that is not sustaining itself.

Brothers and Sisters, we are in a war that is separate and apart from the conflict against radical Islamism.

This is a war to save souls for Christ and simultaneously protect our American culture that was built on Judeo-Christian beliefs.

We have a president of dubious Christian faith that seems more willing to downplay the role of Christianity in the founding of this country while at the same time inflating the importance of Islam in American history.

So, let’s be mindful of the threat that truly confronts us and refuse to let Political Correctness paralyze us from doing what needs to be done.

When Are You Too Old To Hook Up?

THIS IS BEFORE I MET MY BF WHO IS FROM NEW YORK.

A good friend (let's name him James) of mind told me that I am getting too old to be hooking-up with guys. I just turned 30 at that time and he told me that I should be in the "find a husband" mode.

I asked him, "Why do you think I'm too old?"

He believes that no good man would want a barfly over the age of 30. A good man wants another good man. Now, mind you that James is from the South, so he has weird and ancient views of morals and virtue. On the other hand I'm from the West Coast so we don't always see eye to eye on things.

I told him that a good man would accept everything about me if he is really into me. But my friend disagrees with me; he still thinks if your whoring it out after 30, you're damaged.

I can't really explain his logic, plenty of single men over 30 have active sex lives and they are not damaged. I just don't get why he's holding on to this foolishness. If you like a guy and the mood is right, there's nothing wrong with a little "pudding tasting". That's 2 grown men making a decision that is usually good for the both of them (sometimes).

The fact that you are considered "damaged" is crazy. I told James that he should lighten up plenty of guys and girls would still like me. I told him I still have my standards, but at the same time I wanna have a little fun too.

I don't think I am damage at the age of 31. What do you guys think??

Know How Kris Embraces A Simpler Lifestyle in "The Kris Aquino Magazine" October - November 2009 Issue

The latest issue of K Magazine features how Kris Aquino embraces a simpler lifestyle and why Dingdong Dantes is dubbed as the new generation hero.

Ever since her mother died—and following the announcement of her brother Noynoy’s candidacy—Kris Aquino has embraced a simpler lifestyle. She talks all about these two life-changing events and how they have impacted her in the latest issue of K Magazine, now out on the market.

Also in this issue is an account of Kris’s recent family vacation to Hawaii, with captions written by Kris herself. The Hawaii vacation, which she took with husband James and sons Joshua and Baby James, was part of Kris’s promise to her mom that she would spend more time with her family. The ever-efficient Kris planned and organized the trip, and returned with nearly 50 exclusive photos that she is sharing with K Mag readers.

K Mag also offers helpful tips on how to fight stress either of two ways: with herbal remedies or with prayer. Research supports the theory that prayer can benefit not just your soul, but your body too.

Still on the subject of prayer, Annabelle Regalado-Borja of Star Records
talks about the making of the Rosary album that was recorded by the Aquino sisters Ballsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris. The album, which features the sisters reciting the mysteries of the Holy Rosary—an advocacy instilled in them by their mother, who was always known for her being prayerful—is already available on the market.

This issue also gives readers the first look at the new K Everyday line: a collection of items for the home and for daily use. The products were road-tested and approved by Kris and include items for the bedroom and kitchen, as well as everyday items like planners to help you get your life in order. Kris also shows you the latest items from the BENCH Pinoy Lab collection.

For those who share Kris’s passion for cooking, K Mag has some of Tita Cory’s heirloom recipes that you can now cook in your own home for a traditional, homestyle pre-holiday treat.

So get your copy of K Mag now, out wherever magazines are sold, from ABS-CBN Publishing.

It's Family Time, Ya'll!

Its Family Day Tomorrow Ya’ll . . .

Well B~wood doesn’t have a large group of friends, or a close knit family but, whoever, your, crew, peeps, clique, dawgs, familia, posse, hommies, *itches, or homeslice is, I hope you guys make it special.

Thanksgiving 09’ - Man, I can't believe I'm still here.

DL Style

I know this is a touchy subject, but I'm just curious.

The Down Low or DL notion has always bothered me. Ever since J.L. King blasted its existence on Oprah, it has become one of our biggest burdens to bear.

But sometimes...I feel that the 'Down Low' notion is welcomed or romanticized in our community. There are books, shows and sometimes parties encouraging the 'hotness' of DL men. I understand the allure of the issue, but I don't think we should be placing DL men as viable options for a mate.

Maybe I'm off here, but I have to ask...Do we romanticize the 'Down Low'?

I would love to hear y'all thoughts.

Was His Performance Too Much?

Adam Lambert made a statement on Sunday at the American Music Awards that would be unforgettable. Madonna and Britney Spears kissed and Diana Ross jiggled Lil Kim's breast then Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson's breast at the 2004 Super Bowl. Since MTV doesn't show any of Janet's video's and Justin throwing her under the bus and FCC was going to fined her. I wonder if ABC is going to do anything to Adam Lambert after his performance on the AMA's.

Another Group Leaves Bad Boy

Diddy's stream of band fallouts is continuing as Day 26 formally announces that they've left his Bad Boy record label. While Diddy embarks on new territory with his recent signing to Interscope, his brain child of Quanell, Willie, Brian and Mike will do the same. The group has moved from Diddy's emblem to Atlantic Records. By doing so, hopefully they'll be able to salvage their career before their demise a la Danity Kane.

While their days with Bad Boy were numbered from the start, Willie is adamant that there's no bad blood between the group and the powers that be. He told TheBoombox,

“Bad Boy is always our family, but we're with Atlantic right now…we really want to get people focused on the artistry, on the music. I think a lot of people lost it with the entertainment of the show. So now, we really want to show people what we're all about, that we do our thing whether it's on stage, in the studio, writing and producing -- we do it all.”

The group isn't looking to put an album out until sometime next year, but in the meantime, ladies can invest in their women's shoe line. Released in September, Eight2Six shoes coincided with the groups single, “Your Heels.” The line's first product was the “Swagga Heel” featured in three different colors and priced at $99.99.

Am I the only one that's never heard of these shoes?!

No? Didn't think so….

It's the Diddy curse I'm telling you! I DO NOT want to work for Diddy!
